(Actual facts report done by 9 year old Zachary Siewert)

“An apple a day keeps the doctor away!” It’s what we’ve heard for generations, and for many of us has always been associated with having great teeth. But have you ever asked yourself “ What are the REAL benefits of apples?”

In this day and age, growing apples is very different than even 50 years ago. Farmers were plentiful, and healthy nutritious fruits and vegetables were the norm. But today, with food being turned into such a marketing ploy and moneymaker more than a health concern, we have to be even more aware of what we are eating and how our food is being grown. Is it local? Is it imported? Should I be eating organic or non-organic? So many questions, with so many different answers, depending on whom you ask. Well, we want to break it down for you and at least give you a head start on what are good choices and also highlight the health benefits for you.

First a buying tip:

Find out where your groceries come from. Fruits and veggies are usually labeled if you buy bulk, but even if it's not, ask a staff member where they come from and how they grow their produce. If the staff has no idea, or they can't even direct you, run away! Just kidding!  Just keep in mind these days because of many reasons like importing, freshness, bugs, land, and weather, fruits and vegetables are being sprayed, injected, cleaned, picked before they are ready and given ripening agents, to just get more grown faster in more quantity, and sent to stores. These harmful chemicals also create a negative response in your body as it doesn't know what to do with them. So, if you can, buy local, buy fresh and buy organic. Some produce doesn't need to be organic, but then there are some that at all costs do. Apples are one of those fruits that you SHOULD buy ORGANIC.

Here are the health benefits of apples, and to show you how easy it is to research these, my 9 year old found these facts for you just by doing a little research.

  1. Help protect bone health
